I have been an electronics hobbyist since my adolescence, and worked in electronics for 14 years before moving into computers. I have taken some extended breaks from the hobby to pursue other interests but keep coming back. Recently advances in technology, reductions in cost and the popularity of open source have created a cheap, easy to use hobbyist microcontroller platform called the Arduino. You can get everything you need to experiment with microcontrollers for under $50. Arduino has a huge following and the web is overflowing with resources and ideas for this controller. Aquarium controller
My first idea is to create a complete aquarium controller for my 75 gallon my tropical aquarium. It will control day lights, night lights, heaters, air pumps and filter pumps. Stay tuned.
